Professional areas of interest: | Turning those who are intellectually neglected and reluctant into enthusiastic and confident individuals who are not afraid to aim high in anything they decide to do |
Length of time in FE/Sixth Form | 15 years |
Project management experience/expertise: | Recent: Implementation of User Education Programme into curriculum delivery. Developing literacy through Six Book Challenge and Everlasting Festival of Reading |
Role in CoLRiC: | Committee member |
Current professional challenges: | Keeping the Library in the centre of the curriculum and making Library services indispensible to the process of teaching and learning. Adapting services and staff expertise to constantly changing needs of a diverse college population. Sustaining high levels of support in times of limited funding |
What are the top three issues all librarians need to address in order to provide proactive responsive provision? | Extensive and practical knowledge of curriculum needs; moving from the ‘orbital’ place in the organisation into its indispensible heart; maintaining high respect for traditional values of Librarianship but enriching provision with forward thinking, innovation and brave decisions against all odds |
Outside interests: | I would travel across the world to see a good theatrical performance like ‘Waiting for Godot’ with Patrick Stuart and Ian McKellen or Krapp’s last tape with John Hart. I love old things with ‘history attached’, especially Victorian amateur watercolours |
